The Ames High School Tennis Court Complex was the last piece of the master plan for the Ames Community School District 24th Street Administration and Athletic Complex project. The tennis courts complement previously constructed softball and baseball practice and competition fields, a practice cross country track, a central commons plaza, and a concessions and restroom building. The tennis court complex is an eight-court complex designed for competitive tournament play. The facility is equipped with bleachers, a heated team break room, a covered team meeting area, filtered water bottle fillers, and ample lockable storage for meet day preparations. The LED flood lighting and full-height windscreens allow play at nighttime and during windy days, extending practice time and competition windows.
The courts utilize the latest technology in tennis court pavement design with post-tensioned concrete slabs to minimize cracking. This concrete system extends the life of the district investment two to three times over traditional asphalt paving – providing a 50-year lifespan for the slabs. The community is also allowed to use the facility during the off season strengthening the relationship between the district, local neighbors and the city.
