In May, Oskaloosa Community School District welcomed the community into the renovated middle school to celebrate the improvements with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The remaining renovations were completed in July, marking the completion of a project focused on enhancing safety, functionality, and the overall student experience.
Creating a Safer, More Welcoming Environment
Improving building security was a key priority for the District. Renovations included a reconfigured administrative area and new secure entry vestibule designed to balance visibility with security while creating a welcoming first impression for students and visitors.
The project also created a dedicated nurse’s office, providing a more functional space to care for students.
Throughout the renovated areas, updated colors, finishes, and lighting bring greater visual cohesion to the school and reinforce Oskaloosa’s identity. The 10Fold design team explored color theory and its relationship to educational environments to help create spaces that feel engaging and supportive for middle school students.
Addressing the Details That Make a Difference
Beyond the most visible improvements, the project addressed several needs throughout the existing building. In the school’s high-traffic atrium, playful acoustic baffles help manage sound while adding color and visual interest overhead. Unique lighting solutions further enhance the space and contribute to a brighter, more inviting environment.
Additional improvements included HVAC upgrades in both gymnasiums, structural and masonry improvements and restoration, and roof replacement.
The project also included visioning for future phases of renovation, helping the District look beyond its immediate needs and establish a path for continued improvements to Oskaloosa Middle School.
Designed Through Collaboration
Collaboration with the people who use the school every day played an important role throughout the design process. 10Fold worked closely with a committee of staff, administrators, and parents to explore ideas, gather feedback, and balance priorities.
That input helped guide decisions throughout the project and ensure the completed spaces respond to the needs of students, staff, and the broader school community.
